This is the closest beach to our apartment just 12km away. With a shell shaped bay, Sao Martinho do Porto is one of the most known beachs in the region. It is absolutely safe, which makes it a children's paradise. It has a long curved beach front walk way perfect for a gentle stroll. However, during the summer months you will find beach huts, pedalos and a giant bouncy castle set out in the bay, making it the perfect place for children to have fun in the sun and only a 15 minute drive from our holiday let apartment, Silver Coast, Portugal
Obidos
Walking through the spectacular town gate of Obidos is like stepping back in time. Inside the fortified walls the houses are huddled together and linked by winding cobbled lanes. Why not enjoy a taste of the local Ginja, which is a sour cherry liqueur, served in a chocolate cup. Depending on the time of year you visit you might find one of the many festivals going on, they include literary, chocolate and medieval to name just a few.
Foz do Arelho
The Foz do Arelho beach, next to the amazing Óbidos Lagoon, is a place where nature has offered us its wonderful therapeutic qualities and an extensive sandy area, an election place for surfers, whilst the calm and relaxing waters of the lagoon are a delight for children. Every kind of watersport is available here, from dinghy sailing to kite surfing, canoeing to paddleboarding, and water-skiing to wakeboarding.
Berlenga Island
Berlenga, the largest island, is the only one with inhabitants throughout the year, limited to those persons required for indispensable services -- operation of the lighthouse and surveillance of the Nature Reserve, thus living in absolute isolation. Between May and October there is daily maritime transport from Peniche. If this timetable does not suit you, or you would like to visit the islands during a different period of the year, there are small boats that can take you there, subject to seafaring conditions.
Nazaré
Nazaré beach, with its mild climate and natural beauty, has one of the most ancient traditions connected to fishing in Portugal. The long sandy half-moon shaped beach, which is also the town’s sea front, is known for its grandeur and for the brightly-coloured awnings that decorate the white sandy beaches, contrasting with the blue of the water. This is the beach in Portugal that retains the more colourful fishing traditions, and it’s not uncommon to encounter fisherman's wives who still wear the traditional seven skirts, while sitting on the beach front drying the daily catch of fish to sell.
Sitio
From Nazaré beach facing the sea on the right, you will see an impressive headland. This is Sítio, which provides one of the most famous views of the Portuguese coast. It is a 318 metre rock face with a sheer drop to the sea, and is reached on foot by the bravest, or by going up the funicular railway. At the top sits the Ermida da Memória chapel, famous for the legend of the miracle that Our Lady made to prevent the horse of the nobleman, D. Fuas Roupinho, leaping over the precipice. True or not, the Suberco Belvedere shows the imprint left in the rock by one of the horse’s hooves that foggy morning in 1182.
Peniche and Baleal
Peniche and the sea are inseparable. It is one of the largest traditional fishing ports in Portugal and a major Atlantic hub for maritime-tourist activities. In addition to fishing, which has always been one of the sources of income of its people, Peniche is also known for the art of bobbin lacework, perfected by the women while the men were out at sea. Or if you fancy having a go at surfing you will find many of Peniche's surf camps operate in Baleal beach, it is literally based on the prime learning spot; it can't get better than that! When you're surfed out, just chill with a beer & watch the action.
Praia d'El Rey Golf Course
This award-winning course is described as the most stunning course in Europe, with stunning views of the sea on one side and green countryside on the other, this golf course stretches over dunes, cliffs and pinewoods, forming a natural backdrop.

Then after all the excitement of your round, you will find a restaurant waiting for you with a panoramic view over the sea, priding itself on its professional and genuinely personalised service. This is only one of several golf courses in the area.
Buddha Eden Garden
The oriental garden with around 35 hectares of land was created as a reaction to the destruction of the Buddhas of Banyan. From Buddhas to terracotta statues and the various carefully placed sculptures which can be found throughout the gardens, it is estimated that some six thousand tons of marble and granite were used to create this monumental work of art. The central staircase is the focal point of the garden, where the golden Buddhas offer you a calm welcome. At the central lake, Japanese carp fish can be seen, and sculpted dragons rise out of the water. There is also the opportunity to see the seven hundred hand-painted terracotta soldiers, each of them unique copies of those which were buried some 2,200 years ago. You will be truly enchanted with the peace and tranquility of this unique and special place!
Tomar
Tomar, Portugal is one of the country’s most historic cities. Its Templar Castle and Convento de Cristo became the national headquarters of the Templar Knights in the middle ages, and later was at the forefront of the Order of Christ. The city was home to Henry the Navigator and provided the stimulus and resources for his New World Explorations of the 15th Century.
Alcobaça Monastery
Founded by the first Portuguese king in 1153, the Cistercian Alcobaça Monastery (Portuguese: Mosteiro de Santa Maria de Alcobaça) was one of the richest and most prestigious monasteries in medieval Europe. Its church was the first building in Portugal to adopt the Gothic style and was (and still is!) the largest church in the country.
